Grilled meat, although easy to cook yet gives a tempting end product. In India “Tandoori Chicken”, “Chicken Tikka”, “Shik Kabab” are very popular grilled meat dishes and our favourite too. Since I am writing my first grilled meat recipe, it should have been one of those. But last night we had our dinner with grilled pork which I loved so much that I can’t resist myself from sharing its recipe with you. One of our Assamese friends cooks pork curry very well but I never dared to try my hand into it, though I grilled pork quite a few times before.
In Europe it is hard to get any curry dish with meat. In popular restaurants we generally get different grilled meat with varieties of delicious sauces. I also bought a book on grilling but till now didn’t try any recipe from it as most of them require ingredients not really known to me. So without giving much effort to find them, I made this dish completely in Indian way. This recipe goes well with any kind of meat. It requires a handful common ingredients and you can make it any time. So whenever you wish to have grilled meat, there is no need to rush to a restaurant, you can make it at your kitchen. 🙂
Ingredients to serve 2 :
For Grilled Pork :
- Pork fillet – 2
- Plain yogurt – 3 tbspoon
- Ginger paste – 1 tbspoon
- Garlic paste – ½ tbspoon
- Red chilli powder – 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper powder – 1 teaspoon
- Salt to taste
- Oil – 2 tbspoon (I used olive oil)
For Baked Potato :
- Potato – 2
- Olive oil – 1½ tbspoon
- Crushed black pepper – 1 tbspoon
- Salt to taste
Procedure :
Grilled Pork :
Marinate the pork fillet with ginger & garlic paste, yogurt, red chilli powder, black pepper powder, salt and 1 tbspoon of oil for at least 2 hours.
Now preheat your oven at 250ºC.
Put an aluminum sheet on your grill tray and grease with oil. Place the marinated pork fillets on it and grill them in oven. When all the liquid dries out during grilling, take the tray out, brush both sides of the fillets with remaining 1 tbspoon of oil and again put them back to the oven. Grill the meat till it is completely cooked with its colour turning brown. In my case the grilling time was 1 hour as I only have a small OTG. The time may vary according to your oven capacity.
Now you are ready to serve soft, juicy yet crispy grilled pork.
Baked Potato :
Peel and cut the potatoes into thin round slices. Wash them well and boil in salty water till they get cooked.
Place an aluminum sheet on your baking tray and grease with ½ tbspoon of oil. Now spread the boiled potatoes over it, drizzle with remaining oil and sprinkle over crushed pepper and salt (if needed).
Now bake them in preheated oven (at 200ºC) till they turn crispy.
Enjoy with a glass of chilled beer 🙂
Note :
- Grilled meat is best prepared on griller instead of oven. So use that if you have one.
- Meat with little fat is most suitable for grilling than the one without. The melt fat on the meat makes it even juicier.
- You can try the same recipe with different kinds of meat. The time of grilling differs then too.
