Many a fortnights back, I shared with you the recipe of home -made thick crust pizza with bell pepper, bacon and loads of cheese (link). Here I am back again with the story of another pizza, a bit different from its predecessor. This time it is a veg pizza with no meat, but with mushroom and onion as add on. It is a bit different in another aspect too being a thin crust which means the pizzza base is much thinner almost like a roti. Actually, if you really ask me, I must admit having a soft corner for the thin crust ones which gives a really light feeling with the bite. In fact in authentic pizzerias, across Europe and particularly in Italy, I found that they really mean Pizza by thin crust and prepare the base rolling and tossing the dough by hand. Another point to mention here regarding the cheese. I have always been skeptic about choosing the right kind of pizza cheese in India. However, I am pleasantly surprised by the Britannia cheese which is amazingly good and served as a great topping. So as the winter is in its fullest, make your own pizza with all the colours and play innovative with corns, broccoli, tomatoes and whatever you like.
Ingredients for 3 X 8″/20 cm. Thin Crust Pizza :
- Pizza base – 3
- Pizza sauce
- Onion (cut into cubes) – 1 (large)
- Bell pepper (cut into small cubes) – 1 (medium)
- Mushroom (cut into thin slices) – 8-10
- Grated cheese – 200 gm. (Used ‘Britannia Cheese for Pizza’)
- Olive oil to grease the pan
- Dry oregano to sprinkle over
- Crushed/ powdered black pepper to sprinkle over
Procedure :
Making of Pizza Base :
For Pizza base click the link Pizza Base & Sauce, that is also given under the Useful Supplementary tab. In that page I have given the ingredients for 2 pizzas but those are not for thin crust. This time I am using the same amount of ingredients but for 3 thin crust pizzas, which are a bit smaller in size that is 8″ or 20 cm.
Making of Pizza Sauce :
For Pizza sauce again you can follow the same link, Pizza Base & Sauce. Though here I have used a different method as I didn’t have garlic & onion powder in my kitchen. This time I have used the following ingredients.
- Tomato (medium size) – 2
- Garlic (crushed) – 2-3 cloves
- Onion (chopped) – 1
- Black pepper crushed/powder – 1 teaspoon
- Dry Oregano – 1 teaspoon
- Dry basil – ½ teaspoon
- Salt & sugar to taste
- Olive oil – 2 teaspoon
Procedure :
Heat oil in a frying pan over medium flame.
First add garlic, and then onion and tomato subsequently. Sprinkle over salt and saute them till their raw flavour disappears.
Now blend them to a fine paste and mix rest of the ingredients.
Pizza sauce is now ready to use.
Assembling of Pizza base, Pizza sauce & Toppings :
Take the vegetables in a bowl and toss them well with 1 tbspoon of olive oil, crushed black pepper and little salt.
Place the pizza bases on a baking sheet/aluminum foil, greased with olive oil. Push up the edges with your fingers to form a small rim.
Pour 2 tbspoon pizza sauce at the center of each base and spread it throughout leaving a ¼” edge.
Now spread generous amount of grated cheese over the pizza bases and arrange the sliced mushroom, onion and bell pepper cubes.
Bake in a preheated oven, at 180ºC/350ºF, for 15-20 minutes or until the crust is crisp.
Sprinkle over dry oregano and serve hot.
Note :
- You can also add olives, baby corn and chili flakes as toppings.
- This recipe is also applicable for thick crust pizza bases. In that case you will have only 2 pizzas.
